Ngcongca and Mayambela take Diski Nites hot seat

Bafana international Anele Ngcongca and Olympic prospect Mihlali Mayambela headline what promises to be another exciting Diski Nites show at the Rockwell Theatre on 01 June 2016

The upcoming show will be hosted under the theme Homecoming, which is inspired by the two guests’ return home for the off-season and mid-season break respectively.

Ngcongca, who has been in Europe for almost 10 years, has just wrapped up his first season in France’s Ligue 1, where he was on loan at Troyes SC from Belgian side racing Genk.

The Bafana Bafana international will have a lot to say about his side’s relegation, facing Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his future at Genk, national team, as well as his days in the NFD.

Mayambela’s European journey meanwhile is only beginning, as he is just halfway through his first season at Sweden’s Djurgardens IF – where his older brother Mark Mayambela also had a stint.

Like Ngcongca, the 19-year-old made the jump to Europe straight from NFD. It will be interesting to hear what here about his experience, Olympic hopes and what lies ahead.

“Anele Ngcongca has a very unique football story, which has been told in many different ways. The audience at Diski Nites, however, will hear it straight from the horse’s mouth,” says founder Sizwe Jacques Mbebe.

“We have hosted former Bafana Bafana players on the show before on the show, but never one that is active in the current team. This is therefore also very special for us.”

Mngomeni, who is the first South African national player to ever play in the Swedish top flight added:

“I’m very excited that Mihlali will be on the show. He’s going to be our youngest guest to date.

“He’s one of the bright sparks in the country at the moment, he’s in with a chance of possibly making the Olympic squad. I’m interested in knowing about how he’s finding his stay in Sweden.

“I know a lot of players struggle to adjust to the cold weather and everything else, so I want him to tell me more about how he’s finding the league and if he thinks he has a future in Europe, obviously using Djugardens as a stepping stone to greater things.”

Diski Nites is a live interactive football talk show, hosted monthly in Cape Town by Umjaka (Sizwe Jacques Mbebe) and ex-Bafana midfielder Thando Mngomeni.

The duo, fondly referred to as Pinky and Brain, offer a balanced mix of wit and extensive football knowledge that has made this unique show a hit in Cape Town.

Nasief Morris added to Diski Nites line-up

We are proud to announce the addition of another former Bafana Bafana defender, Nasief Morris as a guest for the upcoming edition of Diski Nites.

Morris, started his career with Santos before moving to Europe where he played for Aris and Panathinaikos in Greece, as well as Spain for Recreativo and Racing Santander.

He is one of a handful of South African internationals who have won a league championship in a European league, as well as playing regularly in the UEFA Champions League.

The 34-year-old joins former national team-mate Matthew Booth as guest to tackle the topic “Sustainable Football Careers” in front of a live audience at Theatre @ the Rockwell on Wednesday, 30 March 2016.

“We are very excited to add Nasief Morris to the Diski Nites line-up for our “Sustainable Football Careers” event. He brings in a lot to the discussion, as he has played the game at the highest club level possible and also represented Bafana Bafana,” founder Umjaka said.

“He has played against some of the toughest opponents at the height of their careers and held his own. That he is still active in the second highest league in South Africa is a reflection of how well he has managed his career.

“We are very happy that he will share some of the secrets that have helped him have such a long career with the Diski Nites audience.”
